Retrospect Error 505

The fix was updating the backup computer and client to the latest version of retrospect. This is really obnoxious, and there's only a single server doing backups, so it's simply not possible that e.g. Besides the fact that I want to set and forget backups, and not have to check daily if the backups are REALLY taking place, it's a huge waste of time. My solution was to start and stop the retroclient process on the client machine which seemed to work fine. weblink

Yes, anybody can just re-install the operating system and don’t bother about managing the real problem. Could be a big "if". Knowing where the problem is coming from will give you more chance to solve it. Are there ways of dealing with this more gracefully, and most importantly, automatically?

There are a great number of them but the ones mentioned above are the most typical. The latter needs a bit of your effort though considering that you need to have a legit copy of the file from the web.

All rights reserved. Whatever type of operating system you may have, you can’t run away from this problem. Reinstalling the client software should have created that file if it didn't exist previously. Still no luck.
