Respawn Entertainment's CEO recently shared his thoughts on the PS5 Pro's pricing while hinting at the upcoming Battlefield installment. He remarked that the console's price is reasonable, despite expressing a desire for it to be more affordable to reach a wider audience. During an interview with IGN, Vince Zampella, who leads Respawn and oversees EA Studios Organization, indicated that the next Battlefield game will return to its modern roots.
He reminisced about the series' peak moments during Battlefield 3 and 4, emphasizing the importance of recapturing that essence for players and the development team. He mentioned that those titles represent a nostalgic high point, yet also recognized the significance of Battlefield 1942 in the franchise's history. When discussing the PS5 Pro, Zampella was optimistic about the potential to leverage the new console's capabilities, stating that the Battlefield team could create impressive features with it.
However, he acknowledged that it will take time to see how the console's adoption impacts game development. Zampella emphasized the need for a game that can run on various systems, which shapes how much they can enhance performance on the PS5 Pro. Addressing the console's high price tag of $699.99, he conceded that it might be seen as expensive for some consumers. However, he contended that this cost is justified for those who seek superior performance. Zampella elaborated that, in light of inflation, the PS5 Pro's pricing aligns with earlier console generations, asserting that it's not as exorbitant as it may first appear.
He pointed out that a $700 gaming PC typically does not match the performance the PS5 Pro offers. While acknowledging the financial burden it poses for many, Zampella expressed a wish for a lower price point to make the console more accessible. Nonetheless, he stands by the reasoning behind the current pricing structure. In anticipation of its release, Sony has confirmed that the PS5 Pro will be available globally on November 7, 2024, with pre-orders starting on September 26.
