As Destiny 2 enthusiasts anticipate the launch of The Final Shape on June 4, they're facing some unexpected pre-load demands. On PC, particularly through Steam, users will need to free up an astonishing 299.7 GB of storage for the update. This substantial space requirement is primarily due to Steam's update process, making it somewhat more understandable upon closer examination.

On the surface, this might look alarming, but there’s a method behind the madness. The hefty storage demand is temporary. Once the update is fully installed, the older version of Destiny 2 will merge with the new content, effectively halving the total space consumed. For Steam users, this means the pre-load requirement will shrink once the process is complete, making the update less intimidating than its initial figures suggest.

The Final Shape isn’t just large on PC; it’s a substantial download across all platforms. For PlayStation 5 users, 143.81 GB will be needed, while PlayStation 4 players will require 110.7 GB. Xbox One users should prepare for a 139.52 GB download, and those on Xbox Series X|S will face a 165.82 GB pre-load. Even those opting for the Epic Games Store or Microsoft Store won’t escape the sizable figures, with required space hitting 279.66 GB and 156.22 GB respectively.

These figures place The Final Shape update among the largest in gaming history. It’s a testament to Bungie’s commitment to evolving Destiny 2, a game that has been captivating players since its release in 2017. Bungie’s approach to pre-loads also aims to mitigate server overloads, allowing some PlayStation users to start their download as early as June 1. This staggered release strategy is designed to ensure a smoother experience for everyone when the update officially drops.

Despite the enormous scale of The Final Shape, it doesn’t signify the end of Destiny 2. Bungie has clarified that this update is just another chapter in the ongoing saga. While the specifics of future content remain under wraps, players can rest assured that more adventures await. As we brace for The Final Shape, it’s clear that Destiny 2 continues to evolve, promising even more exciting developments on the horizon.
